I’m very bad at taking ‘before’ pictures, but on a project this large I do have some pictures which at the time were progress, so I wanted to share them side-by-side with current pictures, since the firewall is complete (other than some wiring).
Before :
Current:
Satisfying!
The next steps are to rebuild the engine wiring harness (unwrapping it, removing unused stuff, cleaning everything,
replacing a couple wires, and
re-wrapping it) and start refurbishing the radiator support.

This whole endeavor continues to both inspire and discourage me. I wish I could do stuff like this!

I suspect you could, just takes time!

Yes the duality. I see a complicated mess but a clean one! I don’t know what to think about this hard work that now looks so easy! . .

Looking like a car again, but shiny!

Pssst-hey it’s ‘that guy’. I love what you’ve done. And I like the contrast of the different colors. But at some point down the road having things closer to original will be a benefit. You evaparator cover is the wrong color. Its easier to do now than with the motor in + nose on.

Thanks!
Original is bare fiberglass, and it is the bare fiberglass! On the forums I looked into it (because I’ve seen them in just about every finish possible) and it seems that some were the brown fiberglass as pictured, and some were grey as mine is (it’s original to the car, I’m the second owner). One guy even claimed to have a brown half and a grey half!
Interesting too in your picture that the relay body is silver, where mine was distinctly painted black (including some on the inside of the cover from before it was assembled), probably just a matter of different batches of relays from Delco Remy (which is probably why the evap housings are different colors from that manufacturer, too!).
I do appreciate the feedback and eye for detail :)

You gotta try -there’s no wishing it done. $30 of wire brush/putty knife/cans of brake cleaner/paper towels/ couple different tex tures of black paint and a weekend you can have something pretty nice. It would be hard to make it worse!

Massive improvement!
